This non-technical leaflet explains the considerations that developers need to bear in mind when planning projects on sites that could support snakes or lizards. Development projects have resulted in major losses of reptile populations in England, and developers, planners, conservation organisations and consultants all have important roles in ensuring the impacts of future developments are minimised. The legal situation is outlined, and advice on survey, impact assessment and mitigation is given. The leaflet covers all six native reptiles, and contains contacts for further advice and references for more detailed reading.
