A galvanised steel modular great crested newt grid system suitable to allow vehicular/pedestrian access through a newt fence whilst maintaining the integrity of a great crested newt barrier.

This system has been developed to provide an easily transportable, cost effective and robust solution to the issues of allowing access where a newt fence crosses pedestrian or vehicle access points.

Each channel unit is 1.5m long with a channel top opening of 65mm to prevent great crested newts from crossing. Channel units can be joined to create longer newt grids using the Caudon Access Joining Unit. Anti-trip Bars available as an optional extra where a grid opening might present a trip hazard in pedestrian usage applications.

Depending on application, units can be installed directly into ground substrates for lightweight use such as for pedestrian crossings or set into a concrete foundation for heavier use. The top face should be flush or just under flush with the ground level. The open ends of the channel are positioned such that great crested newts exiting at either end of the channel can only do so on the ‘newt side’ of an adjoining newt fence.
